The electron wave can change both its amplitude and its phase as it traverses the specimen and both types of change can give rise to image contrast. Thus a fundamental distinction we make in the TEM is between amplitude contrast and phase contrast. In most situations both types of contrast actually contribute to an image although we usually select conditions so that one will tend to dominate.
Simultaneous amplitude-contrast and quantitative phase-contrast microscopy by numerical reconstruction of Fresnel off-axis holograms Etienne Cuche Pierre Marquet and Christian Depeursinge We present a digital method for holographic microscopy involving a CCD camera as a recording device.
2010-10-15 · Amplitude Contrast Mass-Thickness • scattering factor f ∝ Z so intensity ∝ Z2 • the number of unscattered electrons decreases exponentially with thickness • amorphous materials generate no diffraction so the only contrast mechanism is via absorption. Density and thickness determine contrast.

Amplitude contrast is a Sobel based attribute that has been used in detecting structural geology. Similar to the Sobel filter amplitude contrast is a computation of the amplitude derivatives between neighboring traces where the non-diagonal neighbors are weighted twice as much.

FSK in contrast does not require coherent detection. Ordinary PSK schemes especially QPSK involve abrupt phase changes that result in high-slope signal variations and high-slope sections of the waveform decrease in amplitude when the signal is processed by a low-pass filter.
In particular calculations have been performed previously for two extremes (1) to obtain the contrast caused purely by the change in amplitude produced when an object is imaged by soft X rays (an amplitude object) or alternatively by the change in phase (a phase object) when imaged in a phase-contrast microscope with coherent illumination. These calculations show that phase contrast exceeded amplitude contrast.
2010-1-13 · In contrast however the sensitivity of primate cortical neurons to small low-frequency amplitude fluctuations is essentially undiminished and in some cases enhanced relative to the auditory nerve (Joris and Yin 1992). This suggests that the ascending auditory pathway is designed to privilege these features of acoustic signals.
2016-12-4 · Chapter 22 Amplitude Contrast Definition of contrast We can define contrast as the fractional change in intensity contrast I I This definition emphasizes the intensity difference between points relative to some average intensity. So if the feature can be imaged with the same intensity difference but upon a lower background intensity
The new encoding methods are proposed and demonstrated for amplitude‐only computer‐generated hologram (CGH). Traditionally the amplitude‐only encoding method proposed by Burch has been used over 50 years because it is the deterministic solution for generating an ideal hologram added by its conjugated hologram.

2015-4-28 · The contrast has a maximum by decreasing the amplitude of the second mode. We demonstrate that the roles of the excited modes are asymmetric. The operational range of bimodal AM is maximized when the second mode is free to follow changes in the force. We also study the contrast in trimodal AFM by analyzing the kinetic energy ratios.
Some of them would were removed either by the aperture of the lens or by the energy filter and this is a simplified view of amplitude contrast by removing the total number of electrons arriving at the image plane. There is contrast built up between dense objects and less dense objects. Phase contrast is
